The impact that a celebrity or professional sports player has is very powerful. Many athletes and celebrities use their “status quo” for many purposes. Whether it be to get a last minute reservation at a restaurant that books a year ahead of time, VIP access to concerts and sports games or early access to products, celebrities and athletes start trends and are always in the spotlight.
That’s not to say that athletes and celebrities don’t use their name and their connections only for their benefit.
Lets take a look at some of the greatest golfers out there today.
Rory McIlroy – The Rory Foundation was founded in 2013, which helps raise funs for children’s charities across the world. Rory is a busy guy but always seems to find the time to speak on behalf of his charity and help spread the word.
Jordan Spieth– The Jordan Spieth Family Foundation allows Jordan “to lend time, awareness, and financial assistance to three areas of philanthropic concern: special needs youth, military families and junior golf.” Jordan seems like the kind of guy that connects to kids, juniors and military families. When he is out raising awareness for a cause, he is there because he wants to be there, not because his sponsors want him to be there.
Sergio Garcia– The Sergio Garcia Foundation helps promote youth golf development for disabled children.
Phil Mickelson– The Phil and Amy Michelson Foundation, founded in 2004: “the Foundation’s goals are met annually through involvement with Start Smart and the Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy. Beyond those nationally recognized efforts, the Foundation is active in supporting a wide variety of smaller but no less important causes.”
They’ve also been deeply involved in “Birdies for the Brave” an event that supports US Military families.
Bubba Watson– “The Bubba Watson Foundation supports existing organizations and administers programs of its own that enhance the physical, spiritual and social development of children, young adults and those associated with the U.S. Military.”
Vijay Singh– Vijay started “The Vijay Singh Charitable Foundation” which “benefits charities and non-profit agencies that provide assistance, shelter, counseling and support to women and children who are victims of domestic abuse.”
Henrik Stenson – Stenson launched The Charity Challenge. Stenson, along with another golfers competes in a matchplay tournament to raise money for charity. Adam Scott and Martin Kaymer are among the participants.
Tiger Woods– The Tiger Woods Foundation hosts 6 golf events each year. Tiger’s two main programs at the Learning Center which supports STEM Educations for children and The Earl Woods Scholarship program which provides college scholarships along with support on getting into college.
Greame McDowell The G-Mac Foundation supports children’s medical research in Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland AND the US. The foundation also provides experiences/vacations in Florida for recovering patients and their families.
Rickie Fowler– The Rickie Folwer Foundation helps aid both the Japanese and Native American Communities. The Foundation focuses on expanding educational opportunities surrounding each separate heritage and offers opportunities for at-risk youth. Rickie is also very involved with The First Tee that promotes life skills & leadership through the game of golf.
Not only are these guys great at golf, but they help raise awareness and money for causes that are close to their hearts and close to ours as well.
